Our September discussion book is The Lions of Al-Rassan, by Guy Gavriel Kay. Kay (who happens to be one of my absolute favorite fantasy authors) specializes in intensively researched, lyrically-written fantasy set in slightly altered versions of real historical settings. Lions, for example, is set in a fantasy version of reconquista Spain, when Moorish and Christian forces fought for control of the Iberian peninsula. You may be interested in visiting Kay’s official website for interviews with the author about the historical framework for the novel, as well as reviews and other relevant materials. I hope you enjoy this novel, and I look forward to discussing it with you on Sept. 2!
